Fellowship; The Organic Life

"God is faithful, by whom you were called into the  fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord," (1Cor 1:9).
We would look at fellowship as it is used in the scripture. What does the writers of the New Testament mean when they used the word fellowship? This is the question we would try to answer. We would trace the meaning in the natural down from the root; the very bases of fellowship is the blood. Fellowship first of all is organic, it has it origin in the family. The family is a group of people who share one blood. You cannot be a part of this fellowship except you have that blood running in your veins.

Fellowship is based on the blood (blood represent life). This one life, the life of the father, is in every member. Each member are in fellowship because they share one life. As long as the members has that blood in them they are in fellowship. Hence, fellowship is unbreakable, for it is only through death that one can lose the fellowship. You cannot break away from the fellowship except you die.

The purpose of an organism is to live; all that it does and all that it pursues is to live and continue to live (survive), to freely express the life within it. Each member of the family live the life; that life that comes from the father. Their duty is simply to express the life and to continue to do so. That one life that proceed from the father is being expressed by each member. The family is gathered around one life; to live that life, to survive and continue to live that life.

They live under one roof base on that life they share. They talk about the life; what had happened when they went out to live the life, how they expressed the life in different situations, how they discover and what they discover about the life etc. The Father gives rules on how the life should be expressed. And he also provides all things required to live the life (2Pet 1:3).

Now fellowship involves frequent meetings and this also is informal. Everyday the family gather around the table and as fellowship is all about the life being shared, they share their lives with each other (their lives being the father's life, that one life which the fellowship is based upon). They share verbally that life that proceed from the father. Each member share with the rest of the family how he/she had spent the day trying to live and express that life. Members try to advice each other, encourage each other and do whatever they can to help each other, all for the sake of living the life.

To cut the long story short, fellowship is organic, it is a group of people sharing a life. And the purpose of fellowship is to live and sustain the life. Fellowship is all about the shared life. Now let get to the spiritual. The moment you got born again you were born into the family of God, hence, you entered into the fellowship of Christ. Christ is the life of the fellowship, he is the life that proceed out of the Father. We are called into this fellowship and the purpose of this fellowship is to live and continue to live by Christ.

"the life was manifested,  and we have seen, and bear witness, and  declare to you that eternal life which was  with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have  fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship  is with the Father and with His Son Jesus  Christ." (1John 1:2-3).

John was saying, Christ the life was manifested and the apostles declared this life so that others may enter into the fellowship. How would they enter into the fellowship? When they come in contact with the life and embrace it. The moment the life is in you you have entered into the fellowship. The fellowship is based on the life, it is based on Christ. And as long as you you are in Christ you are in the fellowship.

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have  fellowship with one another," (1John 1:7).
"In Him was life, and the life was  the light of men." (John 1:4).

John was trying to say we have fellowship with one another when we walk in the light — this light is the life. When you are expressing the life you are walking in the light and in so doing you are in fellowship with the body of Christ. It is not until we have a meeting that we fellowship together. The whole body of Christ are in fellowship with each other when everyone of us are expressing and living by the life (which is Christ). In one of my post I explained how the Church is not the Church except there is the fellowship of the brethren. The post is titled The Ingredients Of The Church, if you haven't read it please do.

We are called to be a Church; we called into the fellowship and we must fellowship. We fellowship by walking in the life; living and expressing the Christ in us. Whenever you express anything other than Christ you have operated outside the fellowship. You must get back into the fellowship, this is who you are, you are a member of this family and you were born to have fellowship with the family.
