Christ Is Holiness

What is holiness? We have frequently heard of the cry, the call to be holy. But the question is do we really understand what holiness truly means? Misunderstanding of the true meaning of holiness would only lead to great confusion. And this is the cause of the confusion that has grip the Church today. We know and we are sure that God demands holiness, but what does He actually mean?
Holiness is not a thing in itself(separated from Christ) that we search out to get but holiness is Christ himself. Holiness simply means to be separated or set apart from something unto something or someone else. We as Christians are set apart from this world and dedicated to God. But how does this happens? It is through Christ, for God had set us apart by putting us in Christ.
"But you were washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God." (1Cor 6:11).
Therefore in Christ we are separated from this world and dedicated to God. Christ is our 'setting apart', it is 'in Christ' that we are set apart and as a result Christ is our holiness. Holiness is not about trying to separate ourselves from the world but it is trying to remain in Christ, try remain wholly for only that which is Christ, try to stand for Christ and going into the depth of Christ (who is our holiness). The way we remains, in Christ is by looking away from every other thing and fixing the eyes of our heart on Christ. Holiness is identifying and recognizing that which is not Christ's, looking away from it and fixing our eyes or giving ourselves complete to Jesus. The very nature of Christ constitute what holiness is.

In the Church today we are finding it very difficult to differentiate between that which is Christ's and that which is just a thing. Yes, righteousness is good but when it is not Christ's it is unholy. Faith, humility, love, holiness, grace, wisdom, gentleness, modesty etc becomes unholy when separated from Christ because Christ is holiness and anything separated from him is corrupt and unholy. Christ is incurably attractive, he is magnetic and it is through him that we are set apart. Therefore the way of being holy is by looking away from every other things, fixing our eyes on Jesus and allowing (with violence against oppositions) his beauty magnet and draws us towards God hereby setting us apart from the world and uniting us with the Holy God.
