Christ; The Author and Finisher Of Our Faith

"looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb 12:2).

This is a very popular passage of the scripture and I'm sure most of us know it. But in this post we would be looking deeper to discover more about this passage. The verse declared that Jesus is the author of our faith, what does that mean? And even more, why did the verse went on to say Jesus is also the finisher of our faith? It can be very damaging to try to understand the scripture without considering the context. If you look very closely at the context of the verse, Paul or whoever the writer may be is addressing a people who have been roughened up by the battle between light and darkness, many have fallen away from the faith and many are close to falling. The question in every one of their heart is, 'can I make it, how long can I keep up with this, will I still remain standing at the end?' This verse was directed to these questions. Is your mind burden with a question similar to these? If so, then this verse is written to you.

Here is a people who needed their faith to be strengthened. And after writing a mind blowing description of faith in chapter eleven, the author moved further in encouraging them by stating that, the Lord who had ran the same race we now run, the Lord who has emerged so victoriously in this race, this same Lord is the one in charge of your faith. He began your faith and he would surely finish it. Jesus gave you this salvation, he is in charge of your salvation and he is not a failure. He is victorious, he has never failed, so why then do you think he would fail in bringing you to the finish line? He brought you to this race and it is his responsibility that you reach the finish line.

You wonder in fear as if it is your responsibility, but he was the one that called you. You didn't choose him, he chose you (John 15:16), he started this whole thing and he must finish what he started. It is not a question of whether or not you can make it, rather the question is, 'Have Jesus ever failed, is he incapable of bringing you to the finish line, is he in charge?' For as long as you put him in charge you will reach the finish line. No matter how tough the battle may get, your Lord is capable of keeping you standing — yes, standing to the very end. You cannot fall, for as long Jesus is in charge of your Christian walk, you have nothing to worry about. Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world (1John 4:4). You can make it to the very end, just put your trust in him.
