We must understand that the New Covenant is all about Christ. The New Covenant is God cutting a stone not with the hands of man (Daniel 2:34). You remember Daniel's interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar, a stone cut not with the hands of man strike the image of the kingdoms of the world and established God's kingdom on earth.
For God to establish His kingdom on earth He needs a stone cut not with the hands of man. This stone has to be cut by God himself, this is why God himself came as Jesus to cut that stone. It has to be Jesus, God does not need the hands of man conterminating the stone. Only Jesus should cut the stone, therefore the New Covenant is about Christ and Christ alone.
Only Jesus can do the Father's work, if any man wants to work for God then he must die and allow Jesus to begin to live in him. The man in him must be put to dead so that only the Christ who lives in him would do the work of God. Man's hands cannot touch the work of God, it will defy everything.
" I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:" (Gal 2:20)
The man dies yet he lives, but not him living but Christ. He can only touch God's work with that part of him that is Christ. The man must die daily, he must decrease so that Christ might increase in him. And the more of Christ he has in him the more he can do God's work.
It is only that part of him that is Christ that does God's work. For the man works yet not him that work but Christ working through him. It must be Christ doing the work through him otherwise it is corrupt and would produce only death. Yes, the works of man will only produce death, and Christianity is so dead today because of the proliferation of man's work.
Yes, you see man's work everywhere and that is why there is very little life in the body of Christ today. No, God must have only Christ doing His work, He does not want the hands of man. Away with that dirty thing, that hands that brings death. Let it die and let only Christ do the work of God.
"Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 6:28-29).
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Gal 2:20).
The only work that God wants us to do is believe in the Son, and it is by faith in the Son that we live his life. By faith we are dead to ourselves and by faith Christ lives instead of us. Faith is the only work that God ask us to do, we are simply to have faith in Christ so that he can live through us. For without faith in him we cannot live his life. So having faith in Christ is all the work that is required of you. The Christian work is Christ; we are occupied believing in the beloved Son so that he can live through us and do the Father's work. There is no other work apart from Christ, he is all that we are to do.
