The Greatness Of His Holiness

Holiness and purity, the greatest of virtue. So fascinating and so beautiful to look upon but yet so neglected. How can such a beauty be neglected? It is too mighty and too awesome, as a result it is scary. Look throughout the Scripture, and observe those who had behold the glory of His holiness. Oh, what a response it provoked out of them?

"So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” (Isa 6:5).

Yes that is the response—a sudden realization of our imperfection. And what follow such response is; "So when I saw it, I fell on my face,". A falling, always a falling, nothing can stand before such purity and perfection, they always fall. Isaiah fell, Ezekiel fell, Daniel fell, John fell and all that had behold His holiness couldn't stop themselves from falling. Even the living being that serve in the presence of God day and night, they have to cover there face to stop themselves from falling: "Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face," (Isa 6:2).

Nothing can be compared with the holiness of God. Why do angels sing "holy, holy, holy" continuously without stop? It is the impression of the sight of God, you cannot see God and not notice that perfect purity. It can not be ignored, it impresses upon you, causing you to cry "holy, holy, holy". You came with a lot of speech and you had a lot of things to say. But at the sight of Him you become dumbfounded, struck with awe and all you could say, the only words that is let out of you mouth is, "holy, holy holy". You can't help it, it is the greatness of His holiness. The Heavens is filled with creatures whose delight is to behold His holiness for the whole of eternity. What an occupation, to some it may sound boring but it is the most amusing thing.

His holiness is the greatest fascination but at the same time it pronoun the strongest judgment. It is the most beautiful thing but yet the most terrifying. Why are the demons so active? What is driving them to put so much effort? Is it not fear? They are driven by fear: "For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” (Rev 12:12). Time is short, the day that they fear so much is close as a result they are reckless and restless. The day they fear is that day when they would be made to stand before the fullness of the glory of the holiness of God through Christ. It is the fear of beholding His holiness, the torture and judgment it would bring upon them if they are made to look upon it. So terrible is the sight of the holiness of God to all those who are unholy.

Look at the ignorant, behold their foolishness: they think they can lay hold of God's holiness by their power; they think they can produce so great a holiness; they think they can contain and tame this Holiness. They would surely fail, for they always fail and they would always failed. They would hit unassailable impossibility, it would keep knocking them over until they wake up. Such an holiness defies all the effort of man, it refuses to become a subject of man. You cannot attain this holiness, you cannot have it neither can you master it. All you can do is fall—yes fall at the feet of this Holiness and make it your Lord. Let it master you and have you instead. For this holiness is a person, it is Christ Jesus the Lord of all.
